More Cowbell Presents: Longwave + The Silent Years

longwaveflyer1

Brooklyn’s Longwave have weathered numerous lineup changes over the last decade, and as a result their albums all have a very distinct sound & vibe to them. Their 2003 album, Strangest Things, made my top 5 albums that year, and is chock full of fantastic hooks and killer guitar work. Whereas their sound on those earlier records evoked The Cure and other 80′s rock acts, their new album, Secrets Are Sinister, released exactly one month ago, sees the band updating their sound to one that fits in a bit more with their contemporaries. Some of the darker and more electronic bombast on the album is reminiscent of M83. As much as I like the band on record, their live show is even better. Do not forget your earplugs, as these guys build up quite a wall of sonic noise.

Also playing are Detroit, MI’s The Silent Years, who were in town a few months back opening for The Envy Corps & White Light Riot. They’re a very fine band in their own right making it a pretty awesome national act double bill. And lastly, the great Minneapolis’ band  Wishbook, featuring Chris Morrissey (bassist for Ben Kweller) and Jake Hansen (brother of Tapes n’ Tapes drummer Jeremy Hansen) open the show.
