9pm showtimeThis is Grant’s first album in 10 years, and it’s a good one. Half of it was recorded in Montreal with members of Godspeed You Black Emperor, the other half was cut at Mike Wisti’s studio here in town. I think it sounds fantastic, and if you’re a fan of his songwriting you won’t be disappointed. The CDs will be ready in time for the show, but the vinyl will be delayed a bit — it’s intended to be a 180 gram pressing, and the pressing plant got their wires crossed and rolled out the test presses on regular weight vinyl — but what the fuck, come on down anyhow.
Brighton, MA (of Chicago, IL)
Matt Kerstein and his crack squad of players – guitarist Jim Turek, bassist Devon Bryant and drummer Sam Koentopp – sink themselves into a general mood that feels like sad chandeliers, a cold frost and men sipping glasses of brandy or whiskey in glasses that are almost always empty and in rooms that are dimmed and staring back with an anxious tension. The songs on Amateur Lovers and their new brothers are a combination of these scenes and the anticlimactic (or most interesting) narratives that have shown the characters as the flawed, yet resiliently trying men that everyone starts out as and winds up as through no lack of effort. These are thoughts that build into a kettle of steam that announce their presence over the course of time, seeping out slowly without the whistle. These are thoughts that one catches himself thinking and knows not where they came from or how they found him, just that they’re right or they’re more right than wrong. Kerstein has one of the most engaging voices and lyrical minds anywhere and Brighton, MA has already made an album that should be recognized, not necessarily alongside other albums that are marveled over, but sharing quarters with prized literature, the pleasure and pain of solitude and mankind’s corrupt beauty. (Daytrotter)
We Landed On The Moon! (of Louisiana)
We Landed On The Moon’s front-woman Melissa Eccles has a blessed voice that is absolutely perfect for a guitar pop wonderland. But, These Little Wars is obviously very much a group effort. The band’s take on the eighties and nineties scene is compelling and exciting. And, unlike Neil Armstrong’s supposed voyage, there is no doubt that this a real event of an album. This is a great album to dance, care, and rock to throughout any purely darkened night. (FensePost)

Stacy & Carl are proud to host Pezzettino (aka Margaret Stutt) for a house show to kick off her current tour! Miss Margaret will be playing her amazing accordion and singing her guts out at our house in Minneapolis on Wednesday night. It’d be great if we could fill up the show for her – especially since it’s her first stop! She played at the Stone Arch Festival this summer, SXSW, and has played locally at the 331 Club!
When: Wednesday, October 14th
Time: 8pm
Address: Message Carl or Stacy if you need directions
Cost: Donation if you can spare a dime for her gas, etc.
BYOB – It’s not a house party without that speakeasy feel…For info or to check out Margaret’s music:

First off, sorry for the late notice, I just wanted to confirm the details. We are moving the show to the space previously known as SHINDERS in downtown MPLS for this one night of improvised musics. The owner of Chambers, Ralph Burnett, is hosting an exhibit of Mathew Bakkom’s artwork and they are using Shinders to have a satellite group show for his friends in conjunction with his own. A very exciting opportunity for the series to continue engaging with malleable spaces and interact with the local arts scene.
Shinders is at 731 Hennepin Ave. There is no heat in the building, so please dress accordingly. People can use the bathroom at Chambers if need be. This is a BYOB event, as usual, and we expect civility and decorum if you choose to drink.
$3-5 /// DOORS @ 8PM
WE ARE NOT ABANDONING ART OF THIS, just taking advantage of this opportunity. I can’t express enough gratitude and joy for our experience with the AOT gallery and the people therein. Hats off to them!
