VAMPIRE HANDS, GHOSTBAND, AND ZOMBIE SEASON @ THE WHOLE

The Whole Music Club presents:
VAMPIRE HANDS, GHOSTBAND, AND ZOMBIE SEASON
Vampire Hands sound is built on pulsating, hypnotic rhythms, reverb guitar and dark yet beautiful vocals and tribal-like chants.

Ghostband has a similar pulsating rhythms. The one man band takes a more experimental approach that produces wild, hazy landscapes of sound capable of shifting dramatically in the blink of an eye.

Sticking with the theme Zombie Season contributes with their haunting and engaging songs that seem to be rooted both in fear and redemption.
Coffman Memorial Union, The Whole.
Nov 13: Doors 7:30pm, Show 8pm.
$3.00 for U of M Students/Staff/Faculty, $5.00 for general public.

Caught In Motion

Caught In Motion live up to their name. They captured a batch of slightly poppy songs into ones and zeros for their debut disc named On the Edge of a Dream. This being a young band in the first decade of 21st century this Portland band did not look far back for inspiration – Radiohead, mid-period R.E.M. and The Decemberists come to mind…

Art Brut & Surfer Blood @ Triple Rock

Picture 29

MPSHOWS.COM PRESENTS

ART BRUT

ART BRUT
They’re an eccentric, motley bunch who have more in common with Half Man Half Biscuit and Pulp than they do with their oft-compared influences The Fall. Vocalist Eddie Argos (an ex-goth obsessed with Jonathan Richman and Vincent Van Gogh) had previously been in a band, The Art Goblins, in his hometown of Bournemouth. Their stage show would see him playing a vacuum cleaner and escaping from a sack. They sounded not unlike cult Glaswegians The Yummy Fur and had songs such as I Wanna Be Johnny Dean and Disco. Another project was The Welsh Elephant, who penned the should-be-classic Fuck The MSP (which contains the catchy refrain Nicky Wire can suck my cock!)

SURFER BLOOD
West Palm Beach indie outfit Surfer Blood, formerly known as TV Club, revives the same lo-fi, post-punk qualities that Joy Division embodied. The band’s a little 1980s, a little experimental, and at times, more than a little melancholic. Beyond all the gloomy stuff, though, Surfer Blood’s songs are catchy as hell and incorporate Of Montreal-style harmonies that mitigate its maudlin mood. – Erica Landau, New Times
