GAYNGS at First Avenue

Local supergroup GAYNGS played two shows at First Avenue on Friday to excited crowds of Twin Citizens decked out in prom gear. The night was pretty perfect, and Prince even made a brief appearance (though he didn’t play).

Buffalo Moon (Album Release) @ The Bedlam

for one night only! FRIDAY!

pay $5 at XXXUSA and cross over to the bedlam for free!!!

then go back and forth all night.

then buy buffalo moon’s cassette (on moonglyph)

—–

So Moon Glyph is putting out their 11th release this week, local newcomers Buffalo Moon’s debut album, “Wetsuit”. Their sound is the perfect complement to our atypically warm spring, check it out:

http://moonglyph.asymm.net/mp3/buffalo_poolside.mp3

With four of its five members hailing from South Dakota, the bossanova/light psych sound made by the Buffalo Moon would be one wicked curveball even in this epoch of transculturalism. But when you discover that their guitarist/harpist/main vocalist, Karen Freire is originally from Ecuador, their superbly titled Wetsuit begins to make sense. That is not to say that the record isn’t without its curveballs. You wouldn’t find track names such as “Iowa’s Got A New Strip Club” and “Money, Pussy, Weed” on an Astrud Gilberto album nor would expect such adept levels of musicianship, but its there in strokes. Wetsuit is in turns beachy and cosmopolitan, slyly experimental and a lot of fun.

Ed. of 100.

karen freire – guitar, harp & vocals
sarah darnall – bass & vocals
preston holm – clarinet, keys & percussion
joel schmitz – guitar & trumpet
jon wetzler – percussion & rhodes

“The Mood Swings sound often conjures up summer fun and garage rock vibes, but the band never falls into the cutesy cliches of girl group convention. Even the over-the-top midnight party blaster “Let’s Go” has a darker undercurrent.”- taken from the bands bio

Haunted House 'Guess Who's Not Coming To Dinner' Album Release Shows

With “Guess Who’s Not Coming to Dinner,” Haunted House prove they aren’t just another Minneapolis All-Star jam band. They are a formidable rock and roll unit lead fearlessly by Mike Watton. Band members and collaborators include, yet are not limited to Jon Davis (Ghostband), Adam Patterson (whitesand/badlands), Cole Claerhout (Dante & The Lobster), Martin Dosh (Andrew Bird), and Freddy Votel. (Skoal Kodiak)

They are an unrivaled, rhythm-heavy rock orchestra. A piano-heavy Pixies or maximal Modest Mouse draw comparisons but don’t nearly describe the freak fluency they share..

Here are some details about the release shows from Mike..

Capgun Coup from Omaha has been added to the October 30th Hexagon bill. Knife World was so stunned by the invite they were rendered speechless. So the line-up is, in no particular order since I’m not sure how that’s going to shake out, but this is my best guess:

Vampire Hands
Haunted House
Capgun Coup
Mute Era

FREE – 21+

Full line-up for the Halloween, and I have no idea the order:

AnĀ Ali Farka tribute band
Tender Meat
Ratt Poison
Awesome Snakes
Japanther
Haunted House

$5 – ALL AGES
