HowWasTheShow Celebrates 7 Years on the Internet with Anniversary Party featuring Big Trouble, Communist Daughter, Aby Wolf and The Inwood Radio

Date: Friday, June 12th, 2009
Where: Turf Club, St. Paul (1601 University Avenue – 651-647-0486)
9PM, $6

Minneapolis, MN – May 27th, 2009 – In “internet years”, 7 is a long time. In 2002 Friendster was in its infancy, and MySpace had yet to be launched. Bands still shared songs on the now completely different MP3.com; Audiogalaxy and Napster were entirely different animals than they are today; and Facebook, where more and more bands are making their event and fan page homes, was not yet a gleam in Mark Zukerberg’s eye.

It was in early 2002 that HowWasTheShow.com’s first review appeared, and founder David de Young registered the catchy domain name later that year. Since then, the site has published over 1,000 reviews of music and theater events, and dozens of podcasts, interviews and features. Former HowWastheShow writers have gone on to write for Spin.com, to become music editors of both the now defunct Pulse Twin Cities and the still thriving City Pages. HowWasTheShow contributing writers and photographers have also founded or contribute to other web entities like Cakein15.com, andCulturebully.com.

HowWasTheShow celebrates 7 years as the Twin Cities incubator for new music and theater writers with a party at the Turf Club Friday, June 12th with a few of our favorite musical acts, Big Trouble, Communist Daughter, Aby Wolf and The Inwood Radio.

The bands:

• Big Trouble – http://myspace.com/getinbigtrouble/ - Musicians who play with Heiruspecs and Martin Devaney’s band (Twinkie Jiggles, Peter Leggett, Steve McPherson and Josh Peterson) play mainly instrumental covers of great songs you know and love.

• Communist Daughter –http://myspace.com/communistdaughterband - Former members of Friends Like These (Johnny Solomon & Adam Switlick) team up with drummer Christopher McGuire and Jonathan Blaseg to play songs Rolling Stone’s Melissa Maerz calls “rip-your-heart out ballads about getting older, but not necessarily happier.”

• Aby Wolf – http://myspace.com/abywolf/ - City Pages 2008 “Best New Vocalist” mixes folk with R&B and hip hop to produce a sound that defies any categorization you might want to throw at it.

• The Inwood Radio – http://myspace.com/inwoodradio - Emerging from the ashes of Six Ways from Sunday, these Magnolia Record Company artists play delicious pop indebted to The Lemonheads, The Beach Boys and Orange Juice.

“Welcome to the 15th Reloaded, Wednesday February 4. First off we will always be airing the show LOST before Reloaded Wednesdays. We will keep this feature going at least until the writers of LOST put down the pipe and start tying together plot points. But there are things more important than that going down this Wednesday.

Face Candy will be making a rare Twin Cities appearance. Face Candy is the forward thinking improvisatory arm of the body of acts featuring Eyedea, JT Bates, Casey O’Brien, Kristof Krane and the rest. Face Candy put out a classic album on Rhymesayers Entertainment a few years back titled “This is Where We Were”. This spectacular record stretched what an emcee could do with a band and with improvising and it also sounded amazing. Face Candy is composed of drummer JT Bates, bassist Casey O’Brien and vocalist Eyedea. Reloaded Wednesdays is simply stunned and honored that all these gentlemen had their Wednesday night free and were keen to get involved with a show.

Opening the night will be Reloaded newcomers Nerve and DJ Arkitekt. It is an honor to have such a diverse set of hip-hop groups gracing the stage. Nerve and DJ Arkitekt have been hitting the nightclubs of the Twin Cities hard in the past couple months and have been seen gracing stages all over with their hybrid of styles coming together in an exciting way.

DJ Anton will start DJing soon as LOST is over at 9. He’ll be mixing it up with his diverse collection of funky rap and funk and rap. Indeed. Also, still got those Jenga boards.

The seventh Reloaded Wednesday will feature Pungee, a Meters
influenced groove of first rate Twin Cities instrumentalists.
The
group is named after a Meters tune, and they work out of the Meters
and other funk luminaries song-book.
The group consists of Bill Mike
(guitar) Toby Marshall (Hammond B3) Graham O’Brien (drums) and Casey
O’Brien (bass).
The group’s collective biography is astounding and no
one should miss them playing songs from one of the most classic funk
groups of all time.

Eff’d Up will also be bringing their individual brand of hip-hop to
the bill.
The crew may be most famous for throwing the hip-hop
festival EFfit Fest every year.
But this year they are making waves in
the Midwest with their sound.

Reloaded Wednesdays is also very proud to have a fantastic house DJ,
DJ Anton. presents a great blend of hip-hop, funk and soul.
Thanks for
joining the Reloaded team Anton.

Reloaded Wednesdays is also proud to welcome Drinking Jenga back after
a disastrous misplacement of the Jenga boards shortly before the
August 6 Reloaded. Crisis averted, Drinking Jenga is back on.
